think the plans are finally aligned to do something about immigration reform. president obama taking the lead of course, talking about it in his inaugural address. you know he is going to talk about it in the state of the union as well. and then the gang of eight on the -- in the united states senate, four republicans and four democrats coming forward with their outline of the legislation that they are going to introduce, which including all of the essential elements includes doing something about clamping down -- i'm sorry -- clamping down on employer who hire undocumented workers, more security at the border, and offers a path to citizenship for the 11 million people who have put down roots in this community. they are here. they have been here a long time. right now they are law-abiding citizens. they are paying taxes. they have got their families. they have got their homes. kids in school. kids in the military. they have got their jobs. they have got everything accept being american citizens. yesterday at a little forum here in washington, d.c. sponsored by "

between she and president obama. how important would it be to get immigration reform done and then set the table for her to take on another big issue in this country? which of course could be health care, which of course could be women's rights. >> absolutely. and the health care plan we have right now is a lot closer to the one she proposed during the campaign because barack obama was against the individual mandate and she was for it. but yeah, on immigration, if immigration reform were to get done, i think republicans are even starting to realize this, it would redound mostly to the benefit of democrats. latinos are trending toward the democratic party on most issues. i think it would help republicans only marginally and democrats a lot more. it would get that issue off the table. if she were to run, which a lot of people think she will, i think she will, she is going to have a lot of successes in the previous administration to kind of push off and run. >> joy reid, great to have you on "the ed show." thank you. >> good to be here. >> a lot more coming up in the next half hour of the

, 380 times they did it to obstruct president obama's agenda, and senate democrats i think are sick of this. senator tom harkin of iowa said on my radio show today without meaningful filibuster reform, it could be a rough second term for president obama. >> i said to obama one time we were in iowa, the night before the election, he was in iowa, the night before the election, i said to him, i said, look, i want some of your time after the election. he said sure, what about? filibuster. i said you get reelected, if you get reelected and we don't change the filibuster rules in the senate, you might as well take a four-year vacation, because you won't get anything done. >> senator harkin also told me about the so-called 41 rule that would require 41 republicans to vote in order to maintain a filibuster instead of requiring the majority party to find 60 votes to break one. folks, 60 votes, it isn't going to happen in the senate. not in this political climate. senator reid had included the 41 rule in his proposal, but politico reported late tonight he dropped the rule after talks with mcc
